Vienna Prater park

/ last update

Vienna Prater Park can evoke extreme emotions – some people like an amusement park there like kitsch, others want to spend the whole day there.

At the outset, we must note that the Vienna Prater park is not just an amusement park, but a large leisure and recreation area with an amusement park, playgrounds, bike paths, a skate park, dog paddocks and many other attractions. It’s a place where you can go jogging, cycling, rollerblading (and even horseback riding!) Or just spending time with your family.

However, the part with the amusement park attracts tourists the most and it is not surprising, because it is a place where everyone can find their own – both the smallest ones, which are waiting for quiet carousels and cars, and the older ones, who are more adventurous.

Amusement park in Vienna

The main entrance to the amusement park is from the Praterstern underground station – you can get there easily because you just head towards the ferris wheel with red cars. On the way you pass sausage and ice cream stalls and finally walk to the amusement park. It is a symbolic entrance with cash registers, shops, gate, but this does not mean that you have to pay at the entrance – entry to the complex is free and you pay separately for each attraction.

In addition, the area seems to be closed and it is actually easy to go out and enter the amusement park through other entrances than just the main one.

What attractions await you? Different! Right at the entrance there is something for people who are not interested in roller coasters, such as the Museum of Wax Figures (Madame Tussauds) and the Chocolate Museum.

A ferris wheel is also considered a quiet attraction (do not enter if you are afraid of heights, it measures 65 meters).

For toddlers, there are many carousels, cars that can be entered with parents or a couple of free trains.

For those who are hungry for sensations, there are a lot of more or less freezing attractions (there are about 250 attractions in total !!!). Including roller coasters (also covered) and haunted houses.

Recreational park

The main street in the park (Hauptallee) is 4.5 kilometers long and connects the Praterstern with the Lusthaus restaurant. As you walk through this vast greenery, you pass many people running or cycling along this class.

In addition to well-kept vegetation, the park also has a lot of equipment and good infrastructure – luxurious playgrounds, climbing places, routes for rollerblading, cycling, skateboarding and even boating!

The greatness of the whole park is also evidenced by the fact that you can move along it by the narrow-gauge railway Liliputbahn Prater, which has several stations.

Is the Vienna Prater park worth a visit?

Some people consider the amusement park to be kitschy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a great time here. Yes, Vienna Prater Park has a long history. But even so, you can easily spend the whole day riding on all carousels and roller coasters. It still has its charm at any time of the year.
